Women Artists of all ages

KY Women's Art Collective invites you to Join us for
Trolley Hop Talks
Last Monday of the Month each month
Open Studio Time
Sundays 3-5pm

Our community had the great fortune to receive funding from Kentucky Foundation for Women and we introduced a series of activities exploring Mosaic Design, Assemblage and Textile Arts such as Batik and Soft Sculpture.

We also hosted a series of Kids Classes called 'Creativity's First Hand' which introduced kids aged 3-12 to a variety of forms and media associated with creative expression and good nutrition. The programs were hosted at the Shelby Park/Meyzeek Middle Community Farmers Market as well as at the Russell Community Garden at 22nd and Cedar this past summer along with the year before that. We would love to host this again and encourage families to join us by inviting us to be community partners at your garden next year... you garden and the kids can enjoy Creativity's First Hand!

We encourage everyone to join us in learning about these arts opportunities and their cultural relevance. Bring your images and home scraps to create your own works and learn more about how to create, repair and re-design the objects or your life! What is with the Speed Museum Curating Replicant Events to BRYCC???

Compare them for yourself and ask... Is it really a coincidence??

Wow... check this out.... the Speed Museum has gone and done it again in less than a Months time... check out how similar their proposed activities are to what we are doing.... what is up with this cheap copy of fast art crap????

This new event ( http://www.louisvillefilm.org/call-for-entries.html ) is truly odd in that it is so much like the grant written by our art collective folks that one would actually have to wonder if someone had read our grant... http://www.brickhouse.cc/story/103

Given the recent Speed?? Baloney!( http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#/pages/SPEED-BALONEY/231843093442?ref=ts ) Incident's uncanny likeness to the Small But Weird Invitational copied by the Speed Museum all in one month... http://www.facebook.com/#/event.php?eid=204152063908&index=1

Somebody somewhere is really paying attention to our ideas and handing them over to the folks at the Speed... whats up with that??? How odd... but totally human...... (read and comment)

Trolley Hop Talk... Art Collective Folk Get the Job Done!

KYWAC creates a womens leadership environment locally!

Last night was a huge batch of yellow and orange fun... Women from ages 16 to 60 came out and learned about the Power of Print as a part of understanding the materials and processes associated with printmakers. Monotypes and Seriography were the featured skill sets and between the 5 active women we were able to lead the community of 15 to a greater appreciation for processes of creative interaction.

We produced over 15 BRYCC T-shirts and 3 Bike Love sweatshirts as well as a few funky freestyle shirts for the fun of it... we learned about rainbow rolling ink and screen printing process. With the help of lots of participants, the Trolley Hop Talk explored the roots of screen printing, monotypes, intaligo, lithography and batiking as cultural expressions.

Next month we will be taking on Mosaic processes and presenting our work on the exterior signage approved by the city! Join us on Sundays from 3-5 for open studio time and find out more about how you can start your own mosaic project.

Much thanks to... (read and comment)

Managing Large Scale Annual Events with Non-Profit Resources

How to Plan and Run an Event with BRYCC as a Brick House Benefit

Given my background in working with BRYCC-Brick House and other events including the INFEST Independent Education Festival, PAZ Conference, Forecastle, and more. I can honestly say that many events can be efficiently run with as few as 5-6 key people who work together weekly and fulfill their tasks on a timeline...

I would say that there should not be one person in charge because it is ultimately designed by those who participate in the committee and specialized task forces who meet each of the needs as they arise... I do think meeting facilitators can serve as managers and also that defining a point person for task forces can quickly eliminate a need for at least 3 people to accomplish one well placed goal...

Attention Local Artists, Kentucky Women and Feminism Fans

Oppression Free Lifestyles Are Yours For The Asking... AND DOING

In recent years the women of the Brick House have become concerned with direct action and DIY methods of learning as a form of Independent Education and Self Engaged Enrichment in a variety of ways. Many of them have gone off to gather skills such as Active Listening which teaches individuals a more thorough means of listening and interacting personally and socially. Other members have followed in the footsteps of original board members to pursue a better grasp of conflict resolution and processes of community mediation.

As a whole the young women (now maybe not so young as they were) of BRYCC have evolved into a specifically empowered community and collective of negotiators and individuals committed to forms of non-violent exchange and self-determined leaders in the field of wellbeing, self-help, negotiation, peace education and specifically women's health initiatives. We encourage members, volunteers and collectives to take time to explore these terms of 'Oppression Free' social organizing and proac... (read and comment)
